Chris Cowie

Executive Director
I have been a senior manager in community charities related to justice, anti-poverty, community development, and international mission since 1988. Previously, I was the Executive Director at two Kitchener agencies. I have also consulted on resource development, organizational development, and strategic planning for charities and small businesses. A member of several boards over the years, I have also worked in various church leadership capacities, and was President of the Ontario Association of Community Correctional Residences for two terms. Currently, I chair the Waterloo Regional Crime Prevention Council. I received an MA in Leadership from the University of Guelph. In 1989 while working with young offenders at another agency, I collaborated with Community Justice Initiatives to develop a Victim Offender Reconciliation program. Witnessing the power of Restorative Justice, I became a strong proponent of using restorative practices in response to many kinds of crime and conflict.  I love playing hockey, cooking, and good literature. I am married with two children, two step-children, and four grandchildren.

Director of Community Relations

During our 40+ year history, we have continuously responded to community needs by creatively, and innovatively applying restorative justice principles to new problems. We believe the only limit to the power of restorative justice is the capacity of the human heart to change and grow.
