Facilitated Dialogue for Families Affected by Sexual Trauma

At CJI, we recognize that most sexual violence occurs within relationships—in families, among friends, in communities. Facilitated Dialogues are conversations between people affected by sexual trauma that are guided by trained facilitators who create a safe environment, where questions can be asked and everyone is respectfully heard. This personalized process can include a survivor of sexual trauma, someone who has offended sexually, as well as others affected by the abuse, including siblings, parents, close friends, and partners.  Facilitators conduct an intensive case development process with each participant, including comprehensive safety planning, assessment of readiness, and an extensive review of the participants’ goals and expectations. They also provide additional supports as needed.  A Facilitated Dialogue can take many forms, including face-to-face meeting, letter writing, or video conferencing.

During our 40+ year history, we have continuously responded to community needs by creatively, and innovatively applying restorative justice principles to new problems. We believe the only limit to the power of restorative justice is the capacity of the human heart to change and grow.
