Replicating Stride In Your Community

Imagine women across Canada successfully reintegrating because your agency offered the Stride program in your region!

Replicating Stride in Your Community

We are looking for non-profit agencies that have compatible values and are engaged with (or want to engage with) women in the justice system.  Agencies need to be located in regions with a half-way house, provincial prison, federal prison, or a significant number of women relocating to your area from these institutions.

Steps to Launch a Stride Program

  1. Contact us to explore whether Stride is a good fit for your organization and region.
  2. See Stride in action by visiting our program at the Grand Valley Institution for Women in Kitchener, Ontario.
  3. Along with a CJI representative, talk to potential partners in your area (prison, halfway house, or a women’s shelter) to assess if there is interest and a need for Stride.
  4. Get approval from your board.
  5. With help from CJI, create a Case for Support, write funding proposals, and approach major and mass donors.

After funding is secured:

  1. Sign a memorandum of understanding with CJI.
  2. Meet with CJI Stride staff to set goals for your program and adapt the model.
  3. Receive manuals, sample proposals, research, program evaluation tools, and promotional stories from CJI.
  4. Formalize partnerships with stakeholders in your region.
  5. Hire staff and train volunteers.
  6. Launch Stride Night with partner organization(s).
  7. Evaluate your program using CJI’s evaluation tools.
  8. Exchange knowledge with CJI and other agencies across Canada delivering Stride through conferences and webinars.

Empower women in conflict with the law to start again and prepare your community to give them a chance.

During our 40+ year history, we have continuously responded to community needs by creatively, and innovatively applying restorative justice principles to new problems. We believe the only limit to the power of restorative justice is the capacity of the human heart to change and grow.
