Women’s prison has grown and changed in its first 20 years

The prison leadership created more opportunities for the women over the years, with great success, Thompson said.

“Having access to the community is really important for women seeing themselves as belonging, and able to contribute” once they get out of prison, Thompson said.

“The leadership of GVI is very supportive of that, and every warden has recognized those opportunities a little bit more than the one before.”
