CJI’s Open Homes program connects refugee claimants in the Waterloo Region who need housing with host homes. Open Homes provides temporary accommodation and a welcoming environment for newly arrived refugees, fostering relationships and offering transitional housing support as folks settle in our community.

Open Homes was a grassroots movement, rooted in the Mennonite community, and has a rich history of volunteers housing and welcoming refugee claimants. We are excited for you to consider joining our home host team with free training and support from CJI!
Open Homes is a community of “hosts” who offer medium-term housing for refugees (“guests”). Hosts offer safety, warmth, and relationship for people newly arrived in the Waterloo Region. Guests and hosts live together in mutually supportive community.
