SUMMARY:Restorative Justice Week: ‘We will Not Cancel Us’ Book Club
DESCRIPTION:About the Event: This book club is an opportunity to read\, reflect\, and connect. Through facilitated conversation\, we will explore themes from We Will Not Cancel Us. Together\, we’ll discuss what becomes possible when we move beyond blame and punishment to approaches rooted in curiosity\, relationship\, and repair. The event will also include opportunities to learn about relevant supports and resources\, and connect with others who are interested in creating more accountable\, caring\, and transformative ways of being together. \nDate: November 18\, 2026\nTime: 6PM – 8PM\nIn Person: KW Habilitation\, 99 Ottawa Street South\, Kitchener\, ON\nAudience: This book club is for anyone navigating conflict and harm in their communities\, workplaces\, relationships\, or everyday lives. 20 spots available.  \nThe Reading: “We Will Not Cancel Us: And Other Dreams of Transformative Justice” by adrienne maree brown (88 pages). Participants are asked to source their own copy of the book. We encourage participants to read the entire book\, however if this is not accessible chapter summaries will be provided at the event. \nContent Warning: The book speaks about difficult themes including harm\, conflict\, punishment\, exclusion\, trauma\, violence and survivorship. These themes are discussed at a high-level and do not include explicit descriptions of violence acts. \nIf you experience barriers accessing the book or have access needs related to participation in the book club\, please reach out to laurenb@cjiwr.com. We will do our best to work with you to identify available options and supports. \nParticipation Cost: We are offering pay-what-you-can registration to help make this event accessible. Contributions above the no-cost ticket help directly support CJI’s programming and our ability to offer community learning\, relationship-building\, and restorative and transformative justice opportunities. \n\nGeneral Book Club Admission: $0-$20\nCommunity Supporter Contribution: $50\n\n  \nFacilitators: Lauren Burrows (she/her)\, Community & Volunteer Engagement Coordinator and Henna Sheikh (she/her)\, Service Coordinator to Family Centred Programs\, Restorative Workplace Conflict & Culture Services \nAbout CJI: Community Justice Initiatives is a non-profit organization that offers restorative services alongside the community to meet healing\, justice\, and safety needs across continuums of harm\, conflict\, crime\, and wrongdoing. We envision a Waterloo Region where justice is reclaimed as a restorative community practice rooted in accountability\, dignity\, consent\, and repair. \nCommunity Care and Participation: We want this to be a space where people can participate with dignity\, curiosity\, and care. We welcome different perspectives\, thoughtful disagreement\, questions\, and opportunities to learn from one another. Language or behaviour that is hateful\, discriminatory\, harassing\, threatening\, or demeaning can cause harm and may affect someone’s ability to participate safely. If concerns arise\, we will seek to respond thoughtfully and\, where possible\, support understanding\, accountability\, and repair. At times\, maintaining the safety and wellbeing of the group may require us to set boundaries around participation or ask someone to step away from the space. \n\nLearn more: www.CJIWR.com\nFollow us on Instagram: @ajustcommunity\nFollow us on Facebook: @CommunityJusticeInitiatives\nResources: linktr.ee/communityjusticeinitiatives
